Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy

My neurodivergent-affirming therapy is rooted in the social model of disability, which emphasizes that disability arises not from the individual, but from societal barriers and norms. This approach recognizes that neurodivergent individuals, such as those with autism, ADHD, or other neurological differences, may face challenges not because of neurodivergence, but because of a world that often fails to accommodate our differences and needs. Sadly, one of the most common and debilitating effects of being neurodivergent I have seen in my work is the shame from not fitting into neurotypical norms and expectations. I strive to create an affirming space where your neurodivergent identity is validated and celebrated, while also helping to heal shame or stigma.

In neurodivergent-affirming therapy, I aim to attune to your unique sensory needs and communication style to the best of my ability. Recognizing that neurodivergent folks may process sensory input or express themselves differently, I adapt the therapeutic environment and communication style to meet these needs. By focusing on understanding and honoring neurodivergence, this therapy fosters self-compassion, reduces feelings of shame, and empowers individuals to embrace their authentic selves in a world that too often ignores our needs.
